Transmission service urgent S80 2.4 1999

Hi, Within an hour of driving, the transmission changes from being nice and smooth into a rugged kicking sensation that jolts the whole car. It's as if it's finding gear but does it a split second late. I have turned the car off then on again which seems to calm it down for a while, but it does'nt last long. I use it for private hire driving it has 284k on the mileage. S80 2.4 1999. Despite the high mileage, it's in excellent condition. I change the oil and filters every 10k. Hope someone could help with this sympton. Regards Terry.
